Mikey and Suzette Miller are the two children of a single mother in the Pacific-Northwest. But when she loses her custody as a result of losing a battle with alcohol, they are both in danger of tumbling into the state’s system. Desperate to stay in their home, they hatch a plot with an unlikey ally: Matilda, the monster that lives in Mikey’s closet. Wanting to also keep her cushy “job” in the home, Matilda agrees to pose as a relative of the children’s. Now, a unorthodox family of humans and one monster will have to navigate elements of both their worlds in order to stay together.
