Mikey and Suzette Miller hatch a plan to keep their family together in the absence of their mother with the help of the monster in Mikey’s closet: the surly and self-serving Matilda.

An old friend from Matilda’s past shows up in the form of her previous college roomate Sally. But past the pleasantries and fun, there might be a more sinister motive for Sally’s sudden arrival…

To support the family, Matilda is forced to use her human cover disguise in order to seek traditional employment and ends up landing a job run by the social worker she scared off initially: Roy.

Another figure from Matilda’s past arrives, this time in her emotionally abusive older brother Gordon. In the midst of this tense visit, several emotions bubble to the surface, including some held by Roy.
